Meet our keynote speaker Sofieke de Wilde
We are thrilled to announce Sofieke de Wilde, a hospital pharmacist, head of the ATMP facility of Erasmus MC and also QP for ATMPs, as one of the keynote speakers. She will be giving a lecture during Single-Use Event 2024 about Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP)
Sofieke de Wilde studied pharmacy, both in Groningen (bachelor) and in Utrecht (Master). After her study she did her PhD at Leiden University on the topic academic medicinal products towards clinical practice, with a focus on ATMPs. After completing her PhD, she did her residency of hospital pharmacy in Meander Medical Center and University Medical Center Utrecht.
Since 2022 she has been working in Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.
About the lecture
In the academic world, first-in-human trials and phase I/II are performed with ATMPs (advanced therapy medicinal products). The production of these ATMPs are (almost) always performed using (double) sterile disposable devices/tools in order to produce in accordance with cGMP guidelines. Both fresh ATMPs and frozen ATMPs are produced and administered to the patients. How to find the best (affordable) products for these processes and for the translation from manual towards automatic are daily questions. And how do we know which devices/tools are on the market?
What are ATMPs?
Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) are medicinal products for human use classified as either somatic cell therapy, gene therapy, or tissue engineered product. These products can be both autologous and/or allogeneic by nature and therefore include a wide range of therapeutic products. Over the past decades ATMPs have shown promising potential in the treatment of a variety of diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity. Over the last decade an increasing number of ATMPs received Marketing Authorization Approval status from the EMA and have consequently been integrated in the basic healthcare system.
The production of ATMPs is strictly regulated and performed under GMP compliant conditions. In 2022, a central Core Facility was established in the Erasmus MC to facilitate ATMP development and effectively translate these promising products to their clinics and patients.
